William L. Perry III, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Scientist Director at Johnson & Johnson, where he leads
innovative AAV-based gene therapy platforms and scalable manufacturing technologies. He brings
nearly three decades of experience in gene therapy, viral vector engineering, and drug discovery, with
deep expertise in AAV biology, vector design, and transgene optimization.
He has led gene therapy programs from early discovery through successful transition into development
and now focuses on advancing programs through the development phase toward the clinic, bridging
discovery and translational execution.
Previously, he held leadership roles at Intrexon and Eli Lilly, building on earlier experience in cancer
genetics at Myriad Genetics, and earned his Ph.D. in Genetics and Development from Columbia
University—foundations that continue to shape his approach to advancing next-generation gene
therapies.
