Senior Scientist, Oncocyte

Tyler Nielson, Senior Scientist at Oncocyte, possesses 12+ years of expertise in molecular diagnostics, bioinformatics, and translational precision medicine. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Biochemistry from Augustana College and a Masters of Biomedical Sciences in Microbiology from Des Moines University.

With extensive laboratory experience, including differential gene expression and SNP assay development, Tyler co-invented DetermaIO, a 27-gene tumor microenvironment classifier that improves the prediction of immunotherapy outcomes in solid tumors.  His research, particularly in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), underscores DetermaIO's pivotal role in tailoring immunotherapy based on individual tumor characteristics.

Tyler spearheads the launch of OncoTIME, a kit version of DetermaIO for standard qPCR machines, democratizing access to this advanced diagnostic tool. He aims to establish OncoTIME as the premier predictive biomarker for immunotherapy, addressing a crucial unmet need in oncology and revolutionizing cancer care with more personalized and effective therapy decisions.
