Susmita Borthakur

Group Leader Molecular Discovery, Merck
Susmita started her professional career as a Molecular Biophysicist. Her doctoral work (at the University of Oxford) uncovered the role of the low-affinity receptor of IgE in signaling and designed a version of IgE that is locked in a rigid conformation, impairing the signaling that triggers allergic reactions. Her postdoctoral work (at Case Western Reserve University) focused on learning how transmembrane helices transduce signals across the membrane. She is passionate about designing the best-in-class therapeutics for patients. She is thrilled to be able to apply her training to design/develop various formats of antibody-based therapeutics during my stint at biopharma.
