- Gero leveraged a 100 million EMR dataset + machine learning and principles from the physics of complex systems to build a very large generative model of human health (LHM)
- The model reveals Functional Units — data-inferred independent sub-systems of human biology.
- In conjunction with large molecular datasets (DNA seq., plasma proteomics) the model reveals molecular controllers of FUs (targets affecting multiple indications each) backed by real-world human evidence with causality superior to mendelian randomisation
- The approach escapes the mice “preclinical trap” and has attracted substantial interest and yielded several partnerships with pharmaceutical companies
